Item details

The leaping hare handle took me a year to get right, so it sits comfortably in your hand. The 3 hare symbol inside is called the Tinners hares or Tinners rabbits. It's 3 hares forming a circle with theirs ears as a triangle in the centre, each hare has only one ear which connects to the next hare, so its looks like each hare has two ears. No one knows where the symbol originated but probably in the far east, the Tinners of south Dartmoor are said to have adopted it as their symbol. It can been found on the bosses of seventeen Devon churches, probably paid for by the rich Tinners. Ashburton where I live is a ancient stannery town hence my love of this very clever symbol.
