COMPLETELY UNIQUE AND 100% HANDMADE IN GLASS.

This is my interpretation of a 'HOPE II', by Gustav Klimt, 1903.

"Klimt painted the heavily pregnant Herma in Hope I in 1903, in which she was depicted naked. In Hope II, she is wearing a long dress or cloak decorated with geometric shapes. She has long brown hair and closed eyes, bowing hear head towards her bare breasts and burgeoning abdomen. An incongruous human skull appears attached to the front of her clothing – perhaps a sign of the dangers of labour, or possibly a memento mori (in Hope I, she is also accompanied by a skull and several deathlike figures). At the foot of the painting, three woman also bow their heads, as if praying or perhaps mourning".

It took approximately 25 hours to make and the time was spread over three weeks. It took a huge amount of focus and concentration to produce this picture and also quite a few moments of sheer frustration. Every piece of glass was put on by hand and each piece was scrutinised and carefully considered. This picture has been fired twice to give some areas a three-dimension appearance.

Picture: 11.5cm width x 26.3cm height x 6mm thickness (100% glass).

Inspiration

Gustav Klimt is one of my favourite Artists. I am hoping that I have done him justice!
