Length 165cm (including fringe) , Width 25cm
The fleece in this scarf came from sheep that spend their lives in Portnahaven on the Isle of Islay. Wool is one of nature’s gifts and sadly one that today is undervalued and underappreciated. The fleece has been hand washed, with nothing more than washing up liquid, dyed with edible food dyes iand hand carded on a beautiful wooden carding machine, that sits on my kitchen table. The scarf is about 60% Islay wool, 15% Merino wool and 25% silk. By buying this scarf you are doing your bit to support the Scottish wool industry and keeping alive traditional skills.
The Scarf consists of a silk scarf between two layers of felted wool. The fleece is predominantly from Scottish Black Face sheep and has been carded with some Merino to give it a soft and luxurious feel.
The scarf has a fringe of felted flower buds, silk hankies have been used for decoration along with some elements of texture created by felting over beads, which are then removed.
This is a one off item of fibreart it can be worn around the shoulders, held on with a brooch or pin, or as a scarf around the neck.
This is definitely hand wash only! Wash gently in cool water and reshape gently, drying on a flat surface.
