This hand made appliqued Moon Gazing Puffin Cushion measures 30 x 50 cm and comes with a cotton covered feather pad.
I have appliqued the Puffin in felt onto a plain linen fabric and used kilt off-cuts for the border. The backing fabric is a muted MacLean of Duart tartan.
I've wanted to create this design of cushion for a while. I love Puffins whatever they are doing! I like to sort through my bags of scraps to find just the right fabric for whatever I am doing. The moon is made from a wee bit of tweed blanket and are the perfect colours.
This would be a lovely gift to anyone who has a passion for Puffins.
You often get moon gazing hares and I thought I would apply the image to a Puffin. I like to design a new Puffin cushion every year and this one is for 2019.
I source a lot of my fabric stash from kilt makers. One very long piece of tartan is used in making a kilt and often I get long strips that are great for the borders in my cushions.
I've used a muted piece of tartan for the back and it just happens to be a MacLean of Duart (my name is McLean!). Most of the time it's pot luck as to what I use, because I go by colour.
You can never have too many Puffin cushions in the home...
