This pretty sky blue glass vase started life as an empty gin bottle, did you guess?
The beautiful blue and square shape of the bottle were too good to waste, so I upcycled it by cutting the top off and polishing the cut edges until smooth. Then I sandblasted the bottle creating a design of long waving blades of grass with a single butterfly fluttering amongst them.
This recycled glass bottle vase is around 13cm (5") tall and 7cm (2.75") wide. The frosted finish is permanent and has been sealed to resist fingermarks. I recommend gentle handwash only to keep the design looking as crisp as it does now.
When first I started to work with glass I collected bottles to experiment with. Some were far too good a shape and colour to melt down and so my upcycled bottle vases were born. Nowadays I am far more interested in the shape and colour of any bottle that comes into the house than the contents!
