Crushed laboratory grown opal. 1mm mesh size.
This synthetic opal takes a year to grow in a lab. It has the advantage of working well under any lighting conditions, whereas real opal can be killed by fluorescent lights.
Gives good play of fire from all angles, the sparkle is very hard to capture on a still image.
One picture shows a silver ring I have inlaid with the ruby red version of this lab opal.
The granules are passed through a 1mm mesh sieve so although irregular shapes they will range in size up to 1mm
These are lab created to almost the same composition as real opals, they are 80% silica with a binding polymer.
Note these are synthetic and not simulants, synthetic is a better representation of the item it is copying.
This listing is for Pacific Blue Opal with greeny/blue fire
See other listings for other colours.
Sold in 1 gram bags.
Just to reiterate the granules are 1mm and smaller as they are sieved through a 1mm mesh.
I have a variety of colours available in both the 1mm mesh size and the coarser 2mm mesh size .

I use these powdered opals in my own jewellery and realised others could make use of them as well.
