Please note this chair has many knocks, mends, bad repairs and old woodworm holes, I've treated it for woodworm and made it stable but have not 'restored' it, instead I've left it with its signs of age and history.
Please contact me regarding delivery.
The delivery charges I have quoted in the postage section are estimates. If courier charges are less than I have quoted then I will refund the difference to you.
You are very welcome to visit the studio (by appointment) and see the chairs and stools before making a purchase from me.
You are also welcome to collect your purchase from the studio, again, by appointment.
If you live within c 45 miles of DE1 I may be able to deliver the item myself at a reduced delivery charge.
I bought this chair unseen from an auction house, just based on an undetailed photograph. When I went to pick it up I was daunted by all the knocks, repairs and old woodworm holes but as I looked again, thoroughly, back in the studio, I began to appreciate the imperfections and repairs, they make the chair unique and hint at its story. The chair has been really loved, when it has fallen apart it hasn't been thrown on the fire, someone has repaired it again and again.
So I decided that I would leave these traces, just treat the wood and make it glow again. Then for the top fabric I just started to sew and experiment with catching copper wire in the threads, with an idea of hinting at life-flow through random mark-making. And then raising a question for myself and whoever finally owns the chair: should you sit on the chair, should you flatten the wire? is this a chair? or has it become 'art'??
