A small cushion measuring 10" square. The cover is made from wool, woven in Wales, and the 'pennies' are made from felt and blanket stitched onto the base. Inside is a new 10" featherpad. If you need to wash this little cushion, unpick the sewn seam, wash in cold water and dry flat (not on a radiator!)

I had seen larger items made in this manner, and was attracted to have a go. Penny Rugs are not in fact used as rugs. They were made in America during the Civil War. Thrifty housewifes, using pennies as templates, would cut circles from old, felted, clothing and blanket stitch them to larger pieces of fabric , making table runners, cushions or maybe bed spreads.
