A miniature Christmas tree for your mantlepiece, window-sill, desk or dinner table! These make a lovely Christmas dinner table display when placed with others of various sizes, shapes and woods.

This rustic, fabulously chunky, free-standing Christmas tree has been handmade using locally grown Beech from the borderlands of Scotland.

Cut freehand from the hardwood, this tree has a pleasing organic feel to its shape. Some edges have been smoothed, others left as they were cut, to complement this natural material. Saw marks have been left on the sides of the tree to add a pleasing texture and variation in colour. The intricacies and interest that are part-and-parcel of working with wood, such as the grain and colour, make this simple tree a lovely addition to your festive decorations!

It looks great on its own, but when placed alongside others an impressive copse of trees can be created, each with their own character.

"I was a forester in Grizdale Forest, the Lake District and I lived and worked in those woods for many years. I've since moved on from that profession, but I've always loved the natural form, colour and texture of wood.

There is something unique about working with it that I've not found in other materials - the way the shape of the living tree dictates and suggests to you the shape and size of the finished item is very special.

This tree has been cut free-hand from a lovely light-coloured piece of Beech. It's thicker than a lot of my other miniature tree decorations, which highlights the visual and textural interest created by the saw - the rough texture complementing the smooth curves and edges of other parts of the tree. There's a really nice line across the lower boughs too; evidence of a branch making it's way out from the main section of trunk that this was cut from."
