'The Legend of Coffee' tells the rather amusing tale of how coffee was supposedly discovered - which I'd love to be true!
The patchwork of fabrics used have all been dyed naturally with coffee, the frayed edges referencing the age of the legend. Free motion embroidery and hand embroidery have both been used to add to the narrative and the journey that coffee beans take to reach us. The coffee plant has also been replicated in free motion embroidery and the colours repeated in the hand embroidered elements.
The artwork has been mounted on to high quality mount board ready to be framed. The artwork itself measures approximately 29 x 23 cms and the mount board measures approximately 33 x 28 cms.

I am passionate about dyeing fabrics naturally with plants and flowers and whilst looking for different varieties of tea, for another piece of work, I came across the legend of tea. This caused me to question if there was a legend for coffee and a little while later I came across this legend. I don't know if it's true, but I would love it to be! As I'd found it so very amusing I decided to use it for a piece of artwork on fabrics dyed with coffee.
