Item details

The red poppy, with it's simple petal structure and black centre is a bold statement at any time of year. This 65 mm diameter poppy brooch is a stunning mixture of textures and colour with bright red velvet petals and sparkling black and pewter beaded centre.
The soft folds of the red velvet petals give depth to the rich red colour of the opium poppy. In the centre, the use of haematite coloured bicone beads with pewter coloured seed beads make a dramatic sparkly contrast with the smooth black glass pebble used as the base.
The back of the brooch is lined with felt with a stainless steel brooch pin.
The beads are woven in peyote stitch using 6 lb fireline beading/fishing thread.

All the other brooches in my collection have been flowers from the garden.....this red poppy is a tenacious survivor growing in the driveway. I allow the poppies to self seed every year. They have never failed to disappoint.
