Having something small and solid to touch or fiddle with when you're feeling a little fragile can be a great comfort when you're feeling stressed or anxious, and bring you a sense of calm. More sophisticated and less noticeable than a fiddle toy designed for children or made of plastic, these worry stars are a great choice as a physical reminder that you can do this, and you are going to be okay.

Each one of these worry squares is utterly unique, and has been named by my daughter, who gave me this idea. These stars measure just over an inch across, and will fit perfectly in the palm of your hand. With one side glossy and smooth, and the other very slightly textured, you can choose which side to run your thumb against whilst the other rests against your palm. Some of us have restless fingers, and having a star to twiddle might help you avoid picking or biting finger nails, or even occupy your hands to stop you reaching for a cigarette!

A star would make an ideal gift for a friend who is finding things difficult at the moment, or for someone who is always fiddling with something.

These stars are made in my kiln from crushed glass, which is heated to a temperature where the glass melts and takes the shape of the mould. There are no sharp edges and all stars have been properly annealed so they are fairly robust - certainly able to handle being tucked into a pocket or tossed in a handbag or pencil case.
