A beautiful pit fired vase. This vase is hand thrown using white stoneware clay and then fired using a traditional smoke firing technique.
Smoke firing (also known as pit firing, sawdust or barrel firing) is a low temperature technique where ceramics are given colour and markings made from smoke and flame. Instead of a kiln, a pit or metal barrel is used into which pots are stacked. Sawdust and wood are packed around the pots and set on fire.
The results are completely unique and create beautiful colours and patterns.
The shape of this vase is inspired by natural seed pods and features beautiful smoke marks in subtle greys and whites. This is a one-of-a-kind vase.
Height 7cm (2.75 inches)
Across 6cm (2.36 inches)
Please note that pots made using this technique remain porous and therefore unsuitable for food or water - they are beautiful decorative items. Your pot will come with a postcard explaining how it was made.
