This is a lovely nativity advent calendar suitable for any age. The base was a "blank" from a well known craft store, that I have adapted and decorated. The picture is mainly cross stitch in a mix of embroidery silks and cottons together with metallic threads, sequins and beads to give some Christmas sparkle!
The 24 drawers around the picture all have a scripture verse in the bottom which tells the Christmas story in the days up to Christmas Eve. I have deliberately left the drawers empty so that the buyer can add whatever small treat is suitable for the recipient. I have found that small chocolate balls fit easily, or it could be a small Lego figure.... whatever you like. The drawers are quite small approximately 2.5cm in each direction. The structure itself is made from MDF which I have painted with a chalky finish paint in whisper grey and the numbers are wood which I have stuck on. The base is finished with green baize to prevent damage to furniture surfaces. The calender is free-standing.

This is the only one I have available for this year, so buy now to get it in time for the beginning of December. It is also on another site for sale, so get in quickly!

I have for years found it difficult to find a religious advent calendar that also provided the treats which people of all ages have come to expect with mass market products, while still portraying the real meaning of Christmas. A couple of years ago I found a "blank" that I thought I could adapt for my grand-daughter, which is what I did. This has proved successful and has the likelihood of becoming an heirloom piece. For her we have also collected miniature crib scene figures that she can add to the display each day, while still getting a chocolate!
