This is a unique hand-made individual mug for yourself or as a gift for a dog-owner or lover of the country. I only make small number of mugs in short batches and note that once these are sold it may be some time before something similar is in my shop again.

A handmade mug for your coffees and teas made on the potter's wheel in British earthenware red clay and decorated with illustrations of a black dog in the Kent studio, England, UK. Painted in ceramic slips with a sgraffito effect that fuses with the clay and glaze. It is finished with a clear glaze in and out. It is made with high quality terracotta clay and fired to 1100 degrees centigrade. The mugs' handles are hand made and shaped by a technique known as pulling.

A perfect and unique gift, especially for a ceramics anniversary. Takes approx 12 fl oz – based on mug being filled to within about an inch or half an inch of rim. Signed SO near to the base of its handle or imprinted OLLEY (or OLY)

I hope you like my work, I'm a designer and potter working in Kent and you'll see that I have a particular interest in ceramics with Labradors and retrievers (actually most animals and country matters)! All of my work, from the smallest cup to the largest platter is an entirely hand made and illustrated one-off. I throw much of my work on the potter's wheel and then illustrate with ceramic slips and glazes before firing in my kiln to create impervious ceramics. I am inspired by dog owners' stories. Tell me about you dog and I will create a design and ceramic piece, whether mug, platter, vase or bowl to pay tribute to a life long friend and companion. Tell me about your dog, send me some pictures and I will do the rest. First I produce a pencil-sketch design (a few days from your order), once approved by you I will progress with making the original ceramic piece, thrown on the potters' wheel then decorated by hand (between two and three weeks as drying has to be very slow). Finally the piece is fired in the kiln (twice - about a week)) before careful packing and delivery. Please don't hesitate to contact me with your queries and I will be very happy to get back to you.
