In Norse mythology Mjölnir is the hammer of Thor, a major Norse god associated with thunder. Mjölnir considered a symbol of Thor. Copies of the hammer were popular in Scandinavia, people wore them as amulets. Also they were used in sacred ceremonies - they sanctified wedding. Vikings underlay them under the bed newlyweds that they had many children. After the adoption of Christianity people at the same time wore cross and Mjölnir.
