Conceived by the American/Canadian Neurologist Dr. Wilder Penfield, a Sensory Homunculus is a physical representation of how the human body would look, if the size of various body parts grew in proportion to the cortical area given over to their specific sensory function.

Crucial to Penfield's Homunculi was that it's body parts develop in proportion to the surface area of the cortical region dedicated to their specific functions.

To make a Homunculus, I first start by welding together a carbon steel skeleton, the body is then built around this steel frame, a process which involves many stages including; casting, modeling and sculpting. Once crafting the body is complete, the figure is then hand painted by the artist befored being finished by glazing the eyes. As you can see from our rotating Homunculus, all this work is undertaken whilst the body is off its simulated rock base.

Crucial to maintaining our quality, is the fact that we put as much work into the rear of the figure as we do the front. Only then can the finished Homunculus be mounted permanently Each Homunculus stands on their base of simulated stone and in total is about 11" tall, that's about 280mm, 12" wide, a little over 300mm, and 7" deep, or about 178mm.

When we ship your Homunculus, it will arrive boxed in a package considerably larger than the figure. We package your Homunculus in this way to ensure that he arrives with you in perfect condition.
