Description

High quality handmade canvas print created in my own studio with Epson lightfast pigment inks on Epson Production Matte canvas, stretched by hand on a natural pine frame using stainless steel staples and finished with framing tape on the back. Once stretched, the canvas is lightly coated with Winsor & Newton Artist's Acrylic UV satin varnish to protect it. Finished with framing tape on the back and fitted with a strong brass hanging wire, ready to hang on the wall.

This canvas print is approx. 30 cm x 20 cm (12" x 8") and 22 mm deep.

The image wraps around the sides of the stretcher frame and has a set of beechwood wedges in the back to re-tension the canvas.

(The easel stand in the background of the images is NOT included in the sale.)

This is my own reproduction of a watercolour painting of an orca (killer whale) leaping out of the water, which I completed in spring 2018.

This image is also available as a giclée print (framed or unframed), a large poster, and a greetings card.

Reproduced from an original watercolour painting by Jenny Chapman, © 2018.

Inspiration

Living on a remote peninsula on the west coast of the Scottish Highlands, we are surrounded by the sea on three sides. Although we cannot see orcas (more commonly known as killer whales) from the shore here, they are quite often seen in the deeper waters which surround the Hebridean islands close to us, and sometimes approach as close as the Isle of Mull. These spectacular creatures are actually the largest members of the dolphin family, and the way in which they leap out of the water is very similar to their smaller cousins.

The original painting from which this print is reproduced was created with Winsor and Newton professional watercolour paints and Faber-Castell Albrecht Durer watercolour pencils on Fabriano Artistico HP watercolour paper.
