Description

High quality handmade canvas print created in my own studio with Epson lightfast pigment inks on Epson Matte canvas and stretched by hand on a natural pine frame using stainless steel staples. Once stretched, the canvas is lightly coated with Winsor & Newton Artist's Acrylic UV satin varnish to protect it.

This canvas print is approx. 20 cm (8") square and 22 mm deep.

The image wraps around the sides of the stretcher frame and the back is finished with professional framing tape. The frame is fitted with a strong brass hanging wire, ready to hang on the wall.

(The easel stand in the background of the images is NOT included in the sale.)

This is my own reproduction of painting of a young red deer stag originally created as an illustration for my children's book "The Magical Midwinter Star" in the Adventures of Algy series.

This image is also available as a greetings card in two designs.

Reproduced from an original painting by Jenny Chapman, © 2016.

Inspiration

This young red deer stag lived close to the Ardnamurchan Lighthouse, and could often be seen on the rocky hillside there. He was the inspiration for a minor character in my children's book "The Magical Midwinter Star", and i used photographs I had taken of him by the lighthouse as reference for the painting. The grasses are typical of the long, rough grass that grows on much of the moorland here, and takes on lovely russet and gold tints in the autumn and winter. The mountains are from another part of the local landscape, as the stag's actual background did not quite suit the story, and the sky is the result of creative inspiration :)

The original painting from which this print is reproduced was created with Winsor and Newton professional watercolour paints and watercolour sticks, and Faber-Castell Albrecht Durer watercolour pencils on Fabriano Artistico HP watercolour paper.
