Stoneware mugs ideal for tea or coffee. These attractive cups are glazed with Tenmoku on the inside with a Wood Ash glaze on the outside. On the inside the Wood Ash glaze forms a beautiful dripping pattern as it melts into the lustrous red-black Tenmoku.

Four cups available, variations on a theme. Each cup is a unique variation of shape and decoration and is labelled 1, 2 etc in order of size. Please advise which one(s) you would like when placing order.

Volumes 200 to 300 ml are indicated on photos. 9 to 10 cm diameter, 6.5 to 8 cm high.

Food and dishwasher safe, but we prefer to hand wash our pots

Welcome to SmallFlamePottery, which has just reopened on Folksy (Feb 25th 2022).
I have been selling my functional stoneware ceramics on Etsy for 3 years and have 245 sales and 72 five star reviews on Etsy > SmallFlamePottery. I'm keen to find new customers :)

The cups were thrown with a light stoneware clay and cut off with a twisted wire, that leaves a nice pattern on the base. The decoration was incised when the clay was still soft and the handles were attached when leather hard. Once dried they were Bisque fired at 1000 C. Tenmoku glaze was swirled around the inside then the cups were dipped in Wood Ash glaze. The second stoneware firing was at 1260 C in my self made gas kiln.

The Wood Ash glaze was made from seasoned tree wood in a wood burner, while the Tenmoku is a recipe my father developed.
