In these difficult times, I continue to work from home. I am only selling items which can be posted via the Post Box which is just outside my gate. I have a stock of stamps and packaging materials and, therefore, can stay open for business without imposing extra risk on other individuals. As usual, accessories featuring original embroidery, in association with felting, hand dyeing and fabric painting may be found in my other Folksy shop - 'Lynwoodcrafts'.
A pretty storage pot, for pens, pencils, knitting needles etc., or line with a jar to use as a vase. One in a series of similar cannisters.
This cannister is quite narrow - it lends itself well to use as a pencil or brush pot and is particularly suitable for taller items such as knitting needles. It would look pretty as a vase - either for dried or fresh flowers. If used for fresh flowers, it will need a lining - if you are unable to find a narrow jar to fit a 'cut-down' plastic water bottle or similar might be the answer.
A recycled, dried foods cannister - which may, for example, have contained dried milk, custard powder, corn flour or a similar food product; has been covered with a sealed and varnished sleeve, decorated with a hexagonal, paper patchwork, cut from recycled envelopes. Some of the hexagons have been decorated with a daisy motif created with 3D paint.
The top and bottom rims of the cannister have been covered in a toning washi tape. The washi tape has also been used to cover the join in the sleeve. The bottom of the cannister is covered in a sealed and varnished disc cut from a recycled envelope. A ring of recycled envelope paper has been glued in place to extend the rim of washi tape inside the cannister. The original foil lining remains visible for most of the inside.
May not be washed.
Height - 14.7 cm approx
Diameter - 7.3 cm approx
I have been collecting 'dry foods' cannisters for some time. Whilst tidying (restacking/assessing) my storage space, I came across a box of envelopes - the sort that helpfully arrive unbidden in the post. I also had a pot of paper sealant/varnish, bought on holiday two years ago and awaiting experiment. I have been enjoying revisiting conventional, fabric and stitches, hexagonal patchwork. Somehow, the combination of materials, ideas and a passion for recycling, beautifully - I hope, resulted in this series of items.
