I have always loved printing, something I fell in love with as an A-level Art student. I find it magical how the ink behaves, no two pieces are the same plus you never know what to expect when you peel the paper back. With simple lines you can create bold features, but it is the process of cutting the lino I love, it is relaxing and satisfying. As a child I would carve up bars of soap to create patterns, maybe that’s where the love came from! I decided this year to return to techniques I enjoy, lino printing was a must. I added new blades that turned out to be good timing as the hot weather this August provided perfect conditions. With my re-found love to print and my obsession with adding mushrooms to my work, it made sense to put the two together. The blades glided through the lino as I created the curves on the shroom stamp, and drying was a joy as the temperatures in excess of 35oC meant fast drying.
