This Coffee table is made from Local to Bristol British hardwoods; sycamore tops, ash legs and oak wedges. The main table piece follows the natural organic curves and grain of the timber.
It is made using the traditional green woodworking craft techniques.
This means that limited power tools were used (only for drilling the holes), and everything is held together using the natural properties of wood and no metal fixings.
Glue has been added to the joints to account for modern heating affecting the wood. The tables have a crisp tool finished for which very sharp hand tools are required.
The legs were turned on a traditional foot powered pole lathe using green ash. A lack of using sand paper means the oiled grain shows up more clearly.
The top is finished using a technique called travishing, which leaves a satisfying bobbly surface, yet still flat and very smooth. It is finished with Grapeseed oil.
