Hand embroidered on silk/cotton fabric, using fine silk floss thread. This wasp beetle has been sewn using a needle painting technique. the cow parsley has been completed using french knots, stem stitch and lazy daisy.
The work has been framed in a wooden hoop measuring 6" and the beetle measures 4cm x 5.5cm.
The wasp beetle can usually be found from May until August and is often seen on hedgerow plants, such as cow parsley. While this beautiful little beetle may look like a wasp it is completely harmless and is a useful pollinator in our countryside.
I first noticed a wasp beetle in summer 2017 during the school run. I was amazed by the colours if a little apprehensive due to the resemblance to a wasp. I was so concerned with getting it off the pavement so it didn't get squished that I didn't manage to get a photo so I have been on the hunt ever since.
