This recycled solid wood scaffold board has a hand painted stencilled seahorse design in dark blues, greens and purples. It is a mixed media piece with the tail of the seahorse and it's chest lined with a soft fabric frill.

The scaffold board has been painted with the same colours as the seahorse but the colours have been watered down so they soak into the wood rather than sitting on top of it. This piece has been painted in acrylic paints with a bit of glitter added to make it sparkle.

We can add a gift message, name, date or other important text to the piece or we can talk to you about painting a bespoke board for you with a different animal or design. Just message us with your ideas.

The board had a dark grain which worked well with the dark washed blues, greens and purples of the seahorse. It is usually the boards themselves that spark off ideas for the design as each one has a different grain and colour.

The idea for the seahorse came from our own love of these amazing creatures. They are delicate yet strong and conjure up feelings of wonder at the sheer weirdness of them. Who doesn't love seahorses?

We stencilled the design as the board has deep grains and cracks which make it hard to draw on. Stencils help us develop the outlines we want for our designs when the boards present us with too many free drawing challenges.

The idea for the colours came from the fabric which we had from another project. The blues, greens and purples of the fabric seemed to fit well with the seahorse design so we hand painted the seahorse to match the fabric. We added a touch of glitter to make the whole thing pop.
