Item details

The coathanger had been stored in a container because it didn't fit in our new wardrobes when we moved house.

We knew we wanted to use them in different ways and wanted to see if they would work as a planter. The hand painted ivy design was chosen because it fit the contours of the coathanger and the colours fit with the planter idea.

We chose to display it with succulents because we are customers of a small antique shop in Levenshulme, Manchester. They grow succulents and we buy our succulents from them to support a local business and because they are really good at growing them.

The tin cans proved to be difficult to paint with the acrylic paints we have been using so we decided to decoupage them. We used newspaper so it wouldn't have too much colour. We didn't want the cans to detract from the hand painting on the coathanger.
