This beautiful leather coin purse is made from Italian distressed brown veg-tanned leather, with a thinner red upholstery leather in the gussets. It is all completely hand-stitched, using traditional saddle stitch on all the seams. A lot of attention has gone into making sure all the details work - the depth of the tray, the way it closes, etc. It has been a long time in getting from 'idea' to 'production' but here it is, and I am pleased with the result. I hope you will be too. It works best when carried in a pocket.

The purse measures approximately 83mm x 85mm x 28mm. The leather has been treated with a preparatory leather conditioner, and due to the distressed nature of the leather, will mark over time, but this adds to the well-loved feel of this item. Small marks can be removed by rubbing in more leather conditioner (available from most saddlers and equestrian supplies shops).

I found people liked my simple coin purses (ones without a coin tray) but I kept being asked for a version with a coin tray. At first I wasn't sure I could manage it using veg-tanned leather, as all the samples I'd seen used very fine chrome-tanned leather that had clearly been stitched using a machine, and the tray part just glued into place, which seemed to me a major weak point. I started experimenting, using a thin piece of upholstery leather to create the gussets, and reinforcing them with a piece of veg-tanned leather to ensure the purse maintained its shape when both open and closed. I also wanted to have a purse that stayed shut on its own, without needing a press stud or magnet. I went through 8 different incarnations of this item, before it finally made it into production!
