Anne of Cleves, 4th queen of Henry VIII, is dressed in a high waisted Germanic style gown similar to the one in Holbein's miniature portrait of her. It's upper sleeves are puffed while the lower parts form a bell shape and are lined with a delicate cloth of gold material. Anne’s head-dress is also of the Germanic fashion and made from gold material, decorated with pearls and has two up turned fly-away white pieces at cheek level. She wears two long golden chains.
Anne stands approx 33cm (13") high and has a signed and numbered ticket tied around her wrist.
I’ve been making historical costume dolls continuously since 1971 and during that time I have had the pleasure of supplying some of the most famous and exclusive retail outlets both here in the UK and the USA. I model all of my own head, hands, and legs sculptures and my husband Roger reproduces them in porcelain, firing them to the white heat of 1243֯ Centigrade. I then paint on the features using China paint, firing them for a second time to 732֯ in order to fix the colours. Patterns for the scaled down clothes are all my own which have been carefully worked out to give the correct look. No two dolls are ever quite the same which makes each one a true original. My customer portfolio has included Windsor Castle, Holyrood House, Kensington Palace, Harrods, Disney World Florida and Smiths of Bermuda. Now I take things a little easier and have limited my outlets to the gift shops at Hampton Court Palace and The Tower of London along with buyers who find me via such sites as Folksy.
