I'll be heading off to Welbeck Winter Weekend (23-25 November) and Gifted Contemporary Christmas Fair (8-9 December) with my buttons and stitched textiles. Do come and say hello if you're there!
A bold textile piece in contrasting acid lime, turquoise and red. The imagery is simple in this work, allowing the stitched line quilting to flow over the surface in a lively way.I particularly like the shadow effect under the painted crosses and the layered colours reminiscent of litho print. The uneven edge is a feature of these Interior Landscapes, resulting from the process of cutting and manipulating the painted fabric to transform it into a patchwork.
The completed piece is constructed of layers of wadding and cotton, with fully-finished edges and a backing fabric on the reverse.
This item is mounted in a glazed, bespoke box frame with limewash finish. The piece measures approximately 175x175mm, frame size 405x405mm.
I have a thing about crosses, it's true. Just look at my instagram. They're a special sort of cross though, as they're building ties. Its nothing to do with religion or even Miffy's funny little rabbit mouth. I like the way in which old buildings are pinned together with metal 'X' shapes, so I do the same with my quilts.
