I've just added stoneware (high fired) buttons to my shop. I'd be really interested to know what you think!
A richly-coloured piece, which would brighten any living space. Made in painted calico and then cut and reconstructed as a patchwork, the effect of cutting, folding and stitching can really be seen in the changing patterns.
The completed piece is constructed of layers of wadding and cotton, with fully-finished edges and a backing fabric on the reverse.
This item is mounted in a glazed, bespoke box frame with limewash finish. The piece measures approximately 175x175mm, frame size 405x405mm.
I first noticed the effect of patterns being disrupted in the Textiles section of the V&A Museum. Large embroidered hangings, made up of narrow loom fabric, had been stitched together in strips. Since then I have been on the lookout for similar effects, for instance in printed clothing such as kimonos, or blankets with a decorative edge.
