Inspired by quilt-making processes, my 'Interior Landscapes' start as painted abstract patterns on calico. Then they are cut and reassembled as patchwork, disrupting the pattern to create interesting visual rhythms. Silk embroidery overlays motifs over this surface, and the whole is then carefully quilted over layers of fabric and cotton wadding.

This item is mounted in a glazed, bespoke box frame with limewash finish. Work measures approximately 175 x 175mm. Frame size 405 x 405mm.

I'll be heading off to Welbeck Winter Weekend (23-25 November) and Gifted Contemporary Christmas Fair (8-9 December) with my buttons and stitched textiles. Do come and say hello if you're there!

Lots of textile traditions have required strips of fabric (woven, printed or embroidered) to be stitched together, making the best of simple technology. I love the resulting broken patterns and the way in which this creates a dynamic surface.

When I'm making these pieces I work in series, just letting visual patterns flow from my imagination, hence 'interior landscapes'.
