I am happy to take commissions and have a large stash of stones and fordite for you to choose from. Since I cut and polish the fordite myself I can cut and set a piece for you to make an extra special item. I ship using Royal Mail's first class signed for service or special delivery depending on the value of the item, it should arrive the day after shipping. I'm happy to post to a work address if there will be no one at home to sign for your package. Should you wish to return an item just let me know within 14 days of receiving it and send it back but you will have to pay the postage for sending it back (I refund the initial postage).
This unusual pendant features a triangular cabochon of sought after Dagenham fordite which has been bezel set in sterling silver. The pendant is open backed so that you can wear it either way round, the 'front' is swirly in sparkly pale blue, red and white with hints of yellow, the 'back' is a darker flat blue with red, white and sparkly silver patterning.
So what is fordite? Decades ago when health and safety wasn't really a consideration cars were manually sprayed and excess over spray paint would build up on the rails that the car panels were rested on. This excess paint would get cured in the ovens and eventually be removed, most of this material went to waste but a few bits left the factories and ended up in the hands of lapidarists and jewellers who realised that it could be cut and polished to show the unique colours and patterns and this became known as fordite. Now methods of painting cars has changed so fordite is no longer formed and is becoming harder to source especially the older material and that from UK factories. This particular piece came from Ford's Dagenham factory in the late 70's or early 80's so would make a wonderful gift for anyone who loves their escort or capri a bit too much (I don't actually know which cars were being produced when the fordite was formed but those models were being made at that factory at that time).
Measures approx 25mm by 13mm excluding the bail, comes with a sterling silver chain in a gift box.
