Goldstone or sandstone has been around since the European Renaissance and is a type of glittering glass made in a low oxygen reducing atmosphere.
Goldstone came about when early monks worked at a glass factory near Venice, Italy were practicing alchemy and molten copper was accidentally tipped into a molten glass container. This incident led to the formation of a Goldstone.
Goldstone or sandstone is not a natural stone but a manmade stone. There is no gold in goldstone; it sparkles because there are little bits of copper in it. Like many other glass beads, you can find these manufactured in Italy, China, and Austria.
This faux stone comes in various colours including blue, green, and brown. The most common is brownish-orange.
