This unusual freeform (roughly triangular) shaped pendant features a cabochon of fordite bezel set in sterling silver. The fordite has a subtle pattern of banding in mostly white with some dark grey, red and silver (some of them are sparkly). So what's fordite? It is layers of paint that built up as over spray in old paint booths at car factories, after going through the curing ovens numerous times the build up was hard and had to be removed. Most ended up in waste but a few bits left the factories as curios and eventually landed in the hands of lapidarists who realised that it could be cut and polished to reveal the different layers of colour. This piece came from one of the Detroit/ Michigan plants probably in the early 2000's (fordite is normally aged by the colours and sparkles) and it has a couple of cracks - the worst is at the top by the bail, they have been stabilised and it is in a closed back setting for extra protection - this is not visible unless you peer at it.
The colour palette and shape are unisex so this would make a great gift for anyone who loves their cars or the unusual things in life.
Measures 44mm top to bottom including bail by 20mm (1 3/4 inches by 3/4 inches) and comes with a 16 inch sterling silver chain (if you would prefer a different length or leather thong then drop me a message first) and comes gift boxed.
