G’Day and welcome to my shop of Jewellery delights! I create one of a kind mixed media jewellery from my home studio in Cornwall!
I’m attending the regular Tuesday Art & Caft Fair at St Ives Guildhall, the 24th July 10.00 - 4.00! If you're down in sunny St Ives (Cornwall) come and say Hi!
My new pewter coloured Ammonite stud earrings have been featured in Folky's Favourites! They'll be in the Nature Inspired category!
I accept commissions and can usually make an item a different colour if you prefer, just drop me a line!
These gorgeous stud earrings fill my passion for fossils! They've been made using UTEE (Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel) also called Jewel Enamel and Embossing Crystals. Jewel Enamels are mainly used in the craft industry but are also an extremely versatile medium which can melt at a medium-high temperature and be poured into silicone moulds!
For these earrings I created a silicone mould from a genuine Ammonite fossil in my personal collection, melted and poured the Jewel Enamel into the mould and left it to cool. To really bring out the fine detail of this Ammonite, I have added slight touches to dark gold/light bronze gilding wax to add some depth and dimension, then coated the front with an acrylic varnish to seal.
I've glued high quality hypoallergenic surgical steel studs to the rear of the earrings with special jewellery glue and added rubber backs to hug them to your ear lobes!
These Ammonite earrings are lightweight and dainty measuring 1.8cm by 1.5cm with a depth of approximately 0.7 cm. Due to the unique nature of these earrings, there may be slight variances to each earring, but these hopefully just enhance their fabulous quality and uniqueness! Each one will be unique and won't ever be repeated - a fabulous work of geology and fossil-hunting style art on your ears!
They come to you safe and carefully packaged in a UK Made eco-friendly recycled kraft card earring box - perfect for gifting (or as a treat for yourself!)
I'm a bit obsessed with UTEE/Embossing Enamel at the moment and am fascinated by how you can put it in moulds! I've had a few Ammonite fossils (including a larger one!) that I bought at a rock and gem show a few years ago and because they are natural with no holes, I've been thinking how to use them for jewellery. Then the idea struck - make a silicone mould!!!
The first pair of Ammonite earrings were featured in Folksy Favourites and sold that day, so as I find making these so much fun, I've created another pair.
