I sometimes manage to jot down ideas for paintings or make small thumbnail sketches, and one day I came across one I had made of a woman sewing, when I was leafing through one of my sketchbooks. However, this painting and the final colour scheme really came about of its own accord, as so often happens in my artwork. I do love pink and grey together, and while much of my work is influenced by at times, loud patterns and colour, I felt the subject matter of this piece demanded a more simplistic palette, where the small touches of pink are allowed to stand out against the predominant use of white. I also hope it has added to the quietness of the image.
Perhaps some of my pieces seem to be quiet and private, because there is an inner need for a return to these moments of solitude, peace, where we can once again be lost in our own thoughts, as opposed to being deafened and stifled by the often times overwhelming,
over stimuli of our modern, digital age.
