Turned on a traditional. foot powered pole-lathe.

Salad bowl with bold rim from spalted Beech.

I love playing with color and feel it sometimes adds that bit of extra. I cut a bold rim on this one, partly because I had to go over the outside wall one or two time more often to get that lovely bulbous shape and didn't execute the cut to the very top of the bowl. So, the rim naturally happened and I rather like the look of it. Setting it of with color makes this bowl stand out beautifully.

As it dried the rim shape-shifted quite a bit and I like of it. It's telling something about a way of being stubbornly individualistic.

Whenever I get spalted Beech I am looking forward to turn a bowl from it. The results are always beautiful. No one bowl is like the other even when turned from the same log.

This tree was near Netherwasdale and was taken down one or two years ago. It lives on in a different shape now.

It will make a table look rather special and there is only one like it out there.
