Hand Carved from a piece of Goat Willow. The tree was pruned as it had overgrown a Ride in the woods. Willow is fantastic for carving and a slightly bent section of wood was perfect to carve this large spoon from. The carving process used an axe, an adze, a knife and a hook knife. The spoon has been burnished and oiled after being left with a faceted knife finish. A knife finish, as oppose to a sanded finish, requires more skill to achieve but gives a more durable surface. The design of the Spoon has been fully thought through to be both strong and functional, working with sympathy to the material and it’s qualities. This spoon is versatile and has a big enough bowl to be used as a serving spoon/ladle as well as for stirring. A truly tactile and beautiful object to use every day that tells a story of the wood and of its creation.
