Item details

Hand stitched textile necklace with decoupaged vintage floral illustrations and felt backing.
The beautiful illustrations have been taken from a damaged book (whose destiny was unknown!) and attached to a pretty floral fabric using a highly durable and effective technique. The images have been given several coats of resin varnish to protect and give a slightly glossy finish.

Pieces of felt have been hand stitched to the reverse of each button (photo 5) and a small picture framer's brass triangle added to enable attachment to a recycled length of a pearlised chain.

The necklace measures between 17.00" - 19.00" and will be gift wrapped in one of my handmade recycled comicbook envelopes. I ship worldwide and welcome any questions you may have. Thank you for looking.

I am inspired by the "Make Do And Mend" philosophy of women who lived through the hard times of the Thirties and Forties. "Fashion on the Ration" during WW2 resulted in amazing creativity born of necessity and I admire everything I have seen of the products of such resourcefulness. These women were pioneers of recycling - and I like the fact that I am now giving another, often alternative, life to things that would otherwise be thrown away.
