I made this bag out of a recycled tweed skirt length found in Bridport in bright red and dark green-grey checks. It is lined with plain bright red cotton from a tablecloth and there is a pocket inside strengthened at the top with the outer tweed as a trim. It fastens at the top with a magnetic snap-button and the handles are sized so you can carry it over the shoulder or in the hand.
Robust, practical and perfect for stuffing with books, umbrellas, water, purses, make-up bags, random shopping etc.
Because each of my bags started as something else (a wool kilt, a tweed jacket, a cotton shirt) they come with a unique numbered card that shows what they used to be, and where they came from – a sort of bag birth certificate.
All the fabrics are pre-washed after deconstruction, and before the stitching starts, so you can put this in a gentle wool wash if needed.
