Item details
This season I am enjoying creating work based around natural merino fleece. This particular piece takes its colour inspiration from the colour of the pebbles on the shore. The natural tones of whites, browns and greys.
Made using a 39 cm diameter circular resist. The fleece is wrapped around this and then wet felted with the former or resist still inside. The access hole, opening at the top of the vessel, is cut open and the resist removed. In this case the hole is a series of cuts faning out from the centre. The vessel is then treated quite aggressively, being rinsed and thrown to complete the felting process. Once the soap has all been removed the vessel is worked by hand into its finished shape.
Once shaped the vessel is left to dry. Felt, once dry, retains the shape that it dried in.
