The oil bottle is hand thrown from white stoneware clay and finished in a satin white glaze.
Although made for olive oil, customers are also buying them for salad dressing. Personally I store chilli oil in mine to pour over home made pizza. Cooking and baking are always more pleasurable when you are using handmade kitchen ware.
Approx 16 cm high excluding the pourer.
The pots are hand thrown on an electric potter’s wheel then left to partially dry until they are leather hard. The pots are put back on the wheel and the bases are trimmed using a turning tool. Handles and decoration are added while the pots are at the leather hard stage.
They are now left to completely dry before they are fired in an electric kiln for about 8 hrs to 1000oC. When cooled the pots are dipped in glaze and again left to dry. At 1000oC the stoneware clay remains porous which allows the glaze to be absorbed into the pot.
The final firing varies from 1200oC 1260 oC depending on the glaze. This firing takes about 10 hrs and changers the clay which becomes non-porous. At the same time the glaze melts and becomes glass like. The whole process takes about a week depending on the weather and how quickly the pots dry out.
