I made this bag out of a recycled skirt in the most amazing bright turquoise tweed (with little threads of rust). The skirt was originally handmade so there is no label to show the make or fabric, but it is a lightweight woven tweed, rather like hessian. The colour is very striking (hours fiddling with the photo editing software to try and do it justice in the photographs here.)
There is lined pocket on the outside and it fastens at the top with a metal carabiner. At the other end of the carabiner fastening tucked inside the pocket is a keyholder too. The handles are sized so you can carry it over the shoulder or in the hand and it is fully lined with a plain lightweight wool suiting gabardine.
Robust, practical and perfect for stuffing with books, umbrellas, water, purses, make-up bags, random shopping etc.
Because each of my bags started as something else (a wool kilt, a tweed jacket, a cotton shirt) they come with a unique numbered card that shows what they used to be, and where they came from – a sort of bag birth certificate.
All the fabrics are pre-washed after deconstruction, and before the stitching starts.
