Our boards are very much pieces in flux. Our woods are not subjected to fast drying techniques, and inevitably this means that our pieces will change over time as they adapt to the temperature variations and moisture fluctuations in your home. We think that this adds charm and interest to our pieces and we anticipate no detriment to their performance and beauty. Expect some movement to surfaces and a degree of shape-shift as knots and burrs continue their seasoning process. Please note that although our boards are robust, they are not sold as chopping boards. All of our pieces wipe clean after use, ideally with damp kitchen paper, and are best left to air-dry. We advise the occasional application of some food safe oil on the surface of your board to enhance appearance and protect the integrity of the wood. Some foods, especially dark fruits like raspberries, ripe strawberries and cherries may leave surface marks on your board. After wiping and allowing your board to dry, a very light sanding and a little food safe oil will remove them.
We provide care-kits with all of our food safe pieces. This gives you some fine-grit sand paper, a sample of food safe oil with product details and a care information sheet.

London Plane tea light holder with three diagonal drilled recesses and characteristic 'lacewood' feathering. A very unusual piece for Waney Grain!
What a pretty little tea light holder this is, and how beautifully the feather grain shows. With three crisply formed edges in some way seeming to 'frame' this piece,
the waney barked edge, with its gentle waved contours and subtle colour variation, acts as a softening contrast.
With predominant cinnamon and warm mink striations this piece shows four distinct cedar-coloured knots in a 3:1 distrubution, adding eye-catching detail. When lit, the tea lights cast charming shadows that dance over the lacey graining which makes this a delightful and understated dining table centre or overmantle piece.
The approximate dimentions of this piece are:
Length: 10 inches (26 cms)
Width: 6 inches (16 cms)
Height: 1.5 inches (4 cms)
Weight: 0.7 kgs
Please note that this is not a food-safe item and a care-kit is neither necessary nor provided.
We recently acquired a piece of breathtakingly beautiful London Plane. After we had chosen the section to work on as a cheese board we had some smaller pieces remaining that were too small to envisage as useful food boards, and we came up with the idea of making them into decorative pieces.
After that thought process it was only a matter of minutes before we both said, together: tea light holders! and the idea came to fruition! Nick had made many light holders on his lathe in the past, so he had a very good understanding as to the way the finished piece would look, and we do have some beautiful prototypes decorating our dining room that evidence his patience with sanding, recessing and finishing.
You really can see why London Plane is known as 'lacewood' or 'freckle wood'. I can also see feathering and fern-like suggestions and this patterning, or how we describe it, is one of the great pleasures that come with our craft!
