Hi all , back at the house again, got another load of timbers for the workshop, Charlie's got his work cut out with a load of sniff tests before I get to start making stuff again, I'm sorry to say we are off for another week soon 9th July to 14th July, but I'm not going to close the shop just be aware there may be a slight delay in dispatches around that time. Also I hope to process some of the work onto new pictures on here so keep a look out.
MJ and Charlie thank you for visiting the shop.
When starting with investigating compound sawing of shapes using a scroll saw one of the early trials was a flower based on a tulip, the pattern of which is available in a number of books on scroll sawing, they are quite basic and often quite big. When i looked at this shape i felt if i could make small ones and assemble them into a hyacinth shape they would be far more effective.
I made a number of them ( infact 9 in this piece) assembled them onto a stem and then compound cut some leaf shapes and mounted this into a base to form what i feel is a very good looking tealight holder
I think the overall effect is very pleasing to the eye.
The flower heads are made from purpleheart wood, the leaves are sapelle and the base is a piece of lime wood. The piece is finished in an acrylic varnish.
The item is supplied with a vanilla scented tealight in a glass container. The holder should only be used with glass tealight cups, Once lit please note not to leave for extended periods as it is wood!.
Size is 185 mm high with the base being 115 mm x 70 mm
weight 260 grams
Design number MJ006d
Compound sawing is very interesting as the shape you can create from simple pieces of wood are very inspiring especially as by combining a number of them detailed designs can be created
