This listing is for Vegvisir saddle round handbag made from vegetable tanned leather. The design is A Vegvísir (Icelandic 'sign post' or 'wayfinder') is an Icelandic magical stave intended to help the bearer find their way through rough weather. The symbol is attested in the Huld Manuscript, collected in Iceland by Geir Vigfusson in 1880 (but consisting of material of earlier origin).

As you can see the image of this bag is full of ancient symbols and carry that special Viking charm. The center of the bag is decorated with antique brass concho.

The making of this very special handbag was inspired by songs of famous singer Björk’s, who carries Symbolic Tattoo: Vegvísir, A Protection Symbol.

This bag is unlined inside, robust and timeless design, lid closes with a magnetic clasp, 100% handmade of full grain vegetable tanned/genuine leather. Assembled with waxed thread and saddle stitching (stronger than machine stitching), it is very durable and will serve you for years.

Size is W24cm x H20cm x D7cm (bottom) with the strap - 117 cm long.

Björk Tattoo Norse symbol Vegvísir Björk, an Icelandic singer and actress, has a cute symbolic tattoo on her left upper arm. It is a Norse protection symbol called Vegvísir, which has a deep meaning. The Icelandic word literally means ‘guidepost’ or ‘direction sign’. In modern popular culture the Vegvísir is often called Runic Compass or See the Way. It is often associated with the Viking Age, which is not correct: this symbol is from the 17th century Icelandic grimoire called Galdrabók (‘magic book’).
The origin of this type of witchcraft is difficult to ascertain: to some extent it derives from medieval mysticism and renaissance occultism, but also has a few connections with the ancient Germanic runic tradition. Vegvísir was drawn on one’s forehead with blood to prevent a person from getting lost.
