Situated on the North Norfolk coast is the seaside town of Cromer. Long sandy beaches, a historic pier and family attractions make this a great place to visit.

Cromer is famous for its 'Cromer Crabs'. Fishing boats are brought ashore laden with pots of this seafood delicacy and distant enthusiasts can be seen reeling in a line off the end of the pier. Whether fished or eaten they remain a favoured pastoral activity for locals and visitors alike and taste delicious with a round of bread.

Cromer's current Victorian pier dates back to the 1900's, the first pier to be built in that spot was in 1391 but could more accurately be described as a jetty! The ravages of the North Sea have meant that the structure may have changed; but Cromer Pier remains today a place to promenade, enjoy some entertainment and service the community.

I have created this unique piece of artwork using scraps of vintage recycled fabric mixed with modern designers such as Liberty and Tilda. Once I have created a design 'pattern' each piece is cut, arranged and finally stitched into place. Mostly I free-machine embroidery but for intricate detail I hand stitch.

Each of my designs are truly original and cannot be reproduced. The artwork is signed, mounted and framed in a light grey box frame.

All along the Norfolk coastline there are many beautiful beaches. Cromer is a bustling town with busy beaches and in high summer there is much to see. Its easy to see why Cromer is popular with artists and photographers with its photogenic views and Victorian architecture.

To the east of the pier parked between the cliffs and the sea is an host of sandy tractors. Corroded by the salty elements these rusty brutes haul boats large and small back up the sandy bank where the day's catch is unloaded.

These vehicles seem to have real personalities and by using fabric I was able to create a more 3 dimensional feel to the tractor in this artwork; I love the effect of sand on the tyres by using yellow lace it has the perfect textural quality that I was looking to portray.

By keeping the pier simple it doesn't distract from the main focal point, but it is still identifiable as Cromer's historic pier.
