Norwich City market, with its colourful awnings and abundant stalls; it is one of the largest open air markets in the UK with around 200 stalls.

Situated behind is the impressive Art Deco architecture of Norwich's City Hall with it's teal/green copper topped clock tower.

To the right, the historic 15th century Guildhall; the Guildhall has an interesting history as it was used as a civic hall and at one time, a prison.

I have created this unique piece of artwork using scraps of vintage recycled fabric mixed with modern designs such as Liberty and Tilda. Once I have created a design 'pattern' each piece is cut, arranged and finally stitched into place. Mostly I free-machine embroidery but for intricate detail I hand stitch.

Each of my designs are truly original and cannot be reproduced. This artwork is signed, mounted and framed in a light grey box frame.

Norwich is a historic city of substance. It has it all going on... Beautiful buildings, interesting places to visit, great shops and a heartbeat; and the market is at the centre of it all.

It oozes life and radiants colour. It is very distinctive with it's uniformed row upon row of colourful stalls, flanked on all sides by historic buildings aplenty.

Inside the market and under it's protective covers it feels like a labyrinth for the senses. As one stall merges into another, the air is laced with sweet and savoury smells and there's a hubbub of chatter which comes from no one discernible place.

The texture from the fabric lends itself really well to capturing all that the market has to offer, it is a whimsical piece of artwork which shimmers in the light and provides the viewer with a unique sense of joy.
