Big skies and a far-reaching landscape of marshland fields - The Norfolk Broads is an expansive network of navigable water-ways teaming with nature.

Originally created by peat-diggers, the channels remained until around the 14th century when the rising tides caused them to gradually flood until peat extraction became inaccessible.

With this artwork I wanted to show the beautiful Norfolk landscape off, orangey pink skies and a foreground full of plant life. I have deliberately placed only two focal points of interest, the windmill and the wherry boat, both typically Norfolk they also give the overall piece scale, interest and a resting point for the eye.

I have created this unique piece of artwork using scraps of vintage recycled fabric mixed with modern designs such as Liberty and Tilda. The fabric is layered to create a dramatic sky with silks, satins and lace. The foreground is layered with hessian and lace and naturally falls in a haphazard manner to give it an earthy feel. Mostly I free-machine embroidery but for intricate detail I hand stitch.

Each of my designs are truly original and cannot be reproduced. This artwork is signed, mounted and framed in a light grey box frame.

As a Norfolk artist and nature lover; The Norfolk Broads are an obvious choice.

A beautiful network of waterways, framed by the ever changing texture, shape and colour of the adjacent plant life. Seasonal skies contrast dramatically against the flat (often windswept) landscape. The views are far-reaching apart from the odd boat sail here and there and windmill of course!

I intend this to be the first in a Broads collection, so many points of interest to capture it is a wondrous source of inspiration.
