This is a table runner that I made from a selection of contrasting pieces from a furnishing fabric sample book. These books are great; you can buy them from posh interior design shops when their season is over, and then get creative with some beautiful fabrics that are otherwise hundreds of pound a metre.
This particular runner is made from six panels, in various shades of light browns, berry red, sand, olive green, and white. The fabric feels very much like raw silk, but I couldn't swear to it. Each panel is decorated with intricately embroidered leaves, blossoms, flowers, and stems in contrasting colours The runner is backed with plain cream cotton (itself recycled from a curtain lining) and double stitched around the border.
I've seen these table runners used for lots of other things in the house too - as bed runners (actually I've no idea if they are called that, but you put them at the end of your bed to add interest and colour), as shelf runners, and as wall hangings.
size approx. 37 cm x 194 cm
all fabrics have been pre-washed in the machine before the stitching starts
